As Y-DNA results are gathered, patterns of matching markers are revealed. People generally have a family history that suggests their lineage, but the DNA results show if they match others who believe they are of the same family line. Although there were a number of Greathouse males in America prior to 1800 whose paternity remains undocumented, it's rather surprising to see how many of those Greathouse males have been confirmed to share Herman Groethausen as their common ancestor, through the use of Y-DNA testing. The Y-DNA results chart below contains the results for all participants who have joined the project since 2008. Currently thirty six Greathouse males have obtained Y-DNA testing through the project, with fourteen of those sharing a 100% match across 43 short tandem repeat [STR] markers, which includes 7 participants who share a 100% match across 67 markers.

The values entered for each STR marker represent the number of markers tested for each participant, which has generally been between 12 and 76 markers. In order to maintain the privacy of each participant, his Y-DNA results were assigned a sequential Greathouse ID# [GID#], when he joined the project. In addition, each participant's Y-DNA results have been named after his ancestor who was either a grandson of Herman Groethausen or the earliest male Greathouse ancestor his lineage has been traced to.

The Y-DNA results for participants whose lineage through Herman Groethausen has been supported by either genealogical documentation and/or genetically by their Y-DNA results matching the ancestral haplotype reconstructed for Herman Groethausen, have also been presented in the following focus group:
